Love in The Time of Pandemic
Art Nourishes the Spirit!
Yes, the title of this blog is taken from Gabriel Garcia Márquez’ wonderful book. The pandemic has changed life for everyone and everybody. But it hasn’t changed the importance of art to inspire our lives. From the murals that arose after the murder of George Floyd to the chalk art in downtown Minneapolis and in many neighbors, art nourishes as it flourishes.
The Semilla Center could not do on-site programming with many of our partners this year, in large part because we work with vulnerable populations. But we can celebrate the art that we have created. These photographs show the incredible art created by participants at Fairview’s Achievement Center, where our former artistic director, Pastora Luisa, worked with people with Multiple Sclerosis and other debilitating diseases to create beautiful wall panels for their space in St. Paul. Many Young Leaders also learned how to work and communicate with elders through this project.
Someday, we’ll be able to rejoice with this wonderful artists in person!
Summer is almost over, and we are planning some wonderful programs for the fall: lantern workshops and a Peace Lantern Procession, a Youth Poetry Contest (with CASH prizes!) and maybe some surprises.
Stay safe and healthy, and stay inspired!
