The Eyes Have It!
Semilla’s First On-line Photography Contest

The results of our “What’s Arting Around in Your House”  Photography Contest are in.  Thanks to all of you who entered photos, and special thanks to our judge, Jorge Amerigo!  Prize winners received gift certificates from two local businesses: Manny’s Tortas and Pow Wow Grounds.

First place in our Youth Division goes to Emma, who sent us this beautiful and haunting photo of roses going up in flames.  Maybe you’ve felt like this over the last few months!

The first place winner in the adult division was taken by Fatima Castro, who is a graduate of our Young Leaders program.  Fatima was one of the first people to come to our youth program 14 years ago, and continues to show her amazing artistic talents.  Oh the wonders of the first buds in spring!

Our 2nd and 3rd place prizes went to Pat and Christine Leehey, who are leaders at St. Paul’s Lutheran, our founding organization.  (Methinks they have a future as performance artists, perchance!)

In Other News:
  • Our summer Young Leaders Program is almost over—we’ve had a great group of youth, who have made our neighborhood more beautiful and aware.
  • Our first poetry chapbook, by Patricia Vincent, and our first poetry broadside are at the printers!
  • It’s hot now, but we’re thinking ahead to the fall: lantern workshops and Peace Lantern Procession with Projection Art, Youth Poetry Contest (with cash prizes!)
