SAVE THE DATE! MAY 16!

Creating is Hard Work!

The first photo is a detail of a mosaic that our artistic director, Pr. Luisa just finished.  It’s going to be dedicated at the new Lutheran Center for Faith, Values and Community (https://wp.stolaf.edu/lutherancenter/) at St. Olaf College on March 31.  One of their tag lines is “Be Nourished”, and Luisa’s mosaic shows people from many cultures gathered around a table.

The second photo shows the hard and sometimes tedious work of creating art.  After all the pieces are carefully installed—and reinstalled, and installed again—there is cementing, grouting, cleaning and sealing. Even that little bottle of window cleaner is a part of the creative process!

In other news, it was 14 below this morning, but May is coming! Doesn’t even hearing the word make you excited?!  Warm weather, graduations, picnics. And our artists and Young Leaders planting pollinator gardens, installing mosaics and working to transform communities.

Please write down this date: Saturday May 16.  Paint it on a banner. Make a Mosaic with it.  Write a Poem about it:  What is it? “Semilla Center’s Spring Fling”, “Make May the Month of Art”, “What a Way to Welcome the Warmth”. OK, we’re still settling on the name!  But here is what you can expect: live music, silent auction, local artists, youth photography, food, family art activities.

Saturday, May 16
5:00- 9:00 pm
Center for Changing Lives
2400 Park Avenue S. in Minneapolis

How can you help:

Volunteer: hanging the art show and photos, sharing flyers, inviting friends, clean up

Ask: local businesses you know to donate items for our silent auction

Give:  Buy a ticket for a family who can’t afford it ($20); buy a whole table for your friends ($160)

Share:  Like “Semilla Center” on Facebook, and invite your friends to do the same.

And to give you a taste of what’s to come, join us at St. Paul’s Lutheran, 2742 15th Ave S. on Saturday, March 14 @ 7 pm, for a wonderful concert with Carlisle Evans Peck and the Lady’s Slippers, with Kenan Serenbetz. More info at: http://www.carlisleevanspeck.com/
