Semilla has been around town!
May is barely half gone, and it has already been a busy month
At the May 3-4 Assembly of the Minneapolis Area Synod, our Artistic Director, Pr. Cabello Hansel designed three panels on the themes of ending world hunger, protecting the earth and unity among peoples. Dozens of people helped make an entire mosaic in just two days!
At the May 9 Semilla and St. Paul’s Night at the Midtown Global Market, Pr. Patrick read from his new book “The Devouring Land”, Peter Breen (www.peterbreenmusic.com) provided the live music, and the wonderful 4th grade poets from Andersen United Community School (www.andersenunitedcommunity.mpls.k12.mn.us/) read their powerful poems on deportation, violence and deforestation.
The Midtown Global Market is full of shops and restaurants from all over the world. Plus a brew pub! Tastes of Morocco, Vietnam, China, Italy, Mexico, and Somalia, to name but a few. It is located on Lake Street, just east of Chicago Avenue, in south Minneapolis. See what they have to offer at www.midtownglobalmarket.org.
And then on May 11, some of our young writers from Semilla attended the first annual Word Play at the Loft Literary Center (www.loft.org), along with a few thousand more people!
That’s just the first part of May. There’s more to come, in May, June and July. A day camp for children 3-11 June 10-14, St. Paul’s Block Party July 20, Open Street Lake Streets July 21 and a lot of mosaic, murals, photography and poetry being taught and created!
There are lots of opportunities to volunteer—please contact us! And this all takes the financial support of our friends. Please consider a donation today for our summer program—our busiest time of the year.
Our donation page at GiveMN is facilitated by our fiscal sponsor, St. Paul’s Lutheran. But rest assured, all your donations go directly to the Semilla Center. Gracias!
